Every now and then I try and open the del.icio.us Web site using "www.del.icio.us." And every time I do that I realize they don't have their site set up to work with "www." Why would they not set this up? Having both "dubs" and non-dubs set up just seems part of the normal site development/deployment process to me. And considering we're talking about a large, highly used and publicized site like del.icio.us this whole thing just seems asinine. My only guess is the del.icio.us URL looks cooler without the dubs.

Um....I can't check it from here because of the firewall, but would the www URL be www.icio.us?

I tried "www.icio.us" and it didn't work either.

I hear you Aaron, can't tell you how much that bugs me.

Some companies will redirect the non-dub to dub for the sake of consistency and for parsing log files when generating site statistics. A smart approach.

But not catering for non-dubs? There are a LOT of high profile sites which don't do this. Hopefully their site admins read the Adobe-centric blogs :)

People who cant remember that you don't need the www shouldn't use del.icio.us. Maybe its a way to thin the herd.

ACE, I think you're missing the point a bit. It's not about remembering or not remembering, but about a high profile site that is not set up like most other Web sites. I think it's safe to say the "norm" - if there is such a thing - is to make your Web sites available with dubs in the URL.

Food for thought, "del" is a subdomain. The "norm" for "www" is it being a subdomain. The "norm", as I know it, is that subdomains don't use a "www" sub-subdomain. As far as I can tell, it's a perfectly legit and normal use of domain levels.

Have you considered sending a message to the del.icio.us team to see if they can add it? If anyone can fix or change it, they would be the ones.

Yeh, it's also annoying when like me you can't spell. I've stuck to having a shortcut in firefox as I always typed it in wrong!

You can always type in www.delicious.com as it's the same website!

Thanks Paul. Oddly enough I hadn't even tried that URL, but it works.
